Getting children interested in the writing area

In my classroom the children were not using the writing area very often. Today I added some new lined paper and envelops and suddenly that area was the most popular today. Many children wrote letters for their moms, dads and siblings. It reminded me of how important it is that we always provide new materials to a variety of areas to help keep things interesting to the children. My next area that needs help getting children interested is the book area. I plan to create some song books to add to the book shelf or songs we sing in our class.
